Dark circles, sometimes called bags under the eyes, occur to women and men of all ages. Dark circles are caused by the bluish (deoxygenated) blood in the veins under the skin's surface around the eyes.
Dark circles are genetically determined and include those that have thin or pale skin, particularly around the eyes. People with sunken-in eyes may also suffer from dark circles due to the shadowing that this causes.
Treatment for dark circles can be aided by increasing antioxidants such as vitamin K (which helps reduce the bruising) CoEnzyme Q10 (protects the cells) or iron(to strengthen the blood) in the diet. Similarly getting the adequate amount of sleep can prevent dark circles.
Eye treatment products for dark circles tend to concentrate on strengthening the capillaries under the skin and neutralising colour irregularities using active ingredients such as vitamin K, retinol, green tea and iron to name but a few.
Dark circles can also be camouflaged using concealers which help disguise the worst symptoms.
